Thompson Okanagan

Tin Whistle Brewing has announced new ownership, a new look and a new environmental focus - now certified carbon neutral! In a COVID-19 pivot, wife and husband duo Alexis and Timothy became owners of Tin Whistle Brewing in 2020, after losing their jobs at the onset of the global pandemic, relocated their young family to Penticton, B.C. and got to work renewing the 25-year-old business.

Farmstrong Cider will be hosting live music every Thursday Night in June, July & August from 5 - 8 PMwith no cover charge but a donation jar for the North Okanagan Rail Trail from Armstrong to Sicamous. Grab a bite to eat, a cold cider and enjoy some live music! (P.S. - they are also currently planning their First Annual Pickle Festival in August!)

After a one year retirement, the Naramata Community Market is back and better than ever!Every Wednesday night, you can stroll through Manitou Park and pick up local produce, food, treats, and an array of handmade products.


Around the Globe

Insect hotels and honey highways are helping bee populations in the Netherlands. The country has launched a national pollinator strategy to help declining bee populations with innovative measures including insect hotels, green-roofed bus stops, planting on roadside verges, and 'honey highways'.

A credit-for-clunkers program launched in France offers drivers thousands of euros to switch aging vehicles to E-bikes! France will become the world’s first country to offer drivers a chance to trade in their old cars for a 2,500 euro ($3,600CAD) credit that can be used to purchase an electric bike.

Thompson Okanagan

Picnic-ton is coming to Penticton parks and beaches May 10, and running throughout summer. This Love Local initiative aims to inspire people to order takeout from local food and drink businesses. Penticton businesses can register for free to be included in the program. 

Tightrope Winery was recently awarded certification as the first "Sustainable Certified" winery and vineyard in BC. The family-owned business has worked hard to make implementing and advocating for sustainable practices a priority. Congratulations!

Canada’s first-ever wine village, District Wine Village, is scheduled to open in June! Located just north of Oliver in the heart of the South Okanagan, the village will be a single destination for wineries and artisan producers from the region.


After having to close its doors in 2020, R.J. Haney Heritage Village & Museum in Salmon Arm is ready to welcome visitors back safely this year. One of many special events visitors can look forward to is the popular Villains and Vittles Dinner Theatre, with opening night on July 4th.


Around the Globe

"A new species of dinosaur was recently discovered in a hotel room in Perth, Australia." During mandatory hotel quarantine after an overseas move, a B.C. family made good use of their takeout bags and containers and kept their toddler entertained by building a 1.5 meter high "Bagasaurus". :)

Thompson Okanagan

The annual Vacay.ca 20 Best Places to Travel in Canada has named the South Okanagan as the top destination, followed by Cape Breton, Nova Scotia; and Banff and Lake Louise, Alberta

An independent film company, Lake City Pictures, is creating a documentary about 10 Okanagan artisans with 10 different stories. In the shadow of chain store closures, is it the small makers’ nimbleness that helps to keep them open for business? There is a current Indiegogo Campaign open to complete the project funding.

From now until April 1, Big White is asking its guests, industry partners and residents to consider donating to the Central Okanagan Food Bank. For every dollar donated, Big White will match it up to $15,000. Anyone donating from now until the beginning of April will have the opportunity to win prizes from Big White Ski Resort.


Tourism Nicola Valley was recently recognized twice for its innovative digital tourism marketing program, “Experience Nicola Valley” - winning International and Provincial awards in the same week!

Air Canada has committed to an ambitious net zero emissions goal by 2050 - part of a long-term commitment to advancing climate change sustainability, part of which includes investing $50 Million in Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), and carbon reductions and removals.
