Vote for Thompson Okanagan at Lonely Planet Readers' Choice Awards

The Thompson Okanagan region has been invited to participate in Lonely Planet's Best In Travel Readers' Choice Awards. It would be outstanding to have the Thompson Okanagan region recognized internationally for our collective efforts towards sustainable and responsible tourism, as outlined in the updated 10-year regional tourism strategy, Embracing Our Potential 2.0.

Sustainable experiences in the Thompson Okanagan include accessible nature, parks and protected areas, Indigenous cuisine, locally grown food, and biking trails. Photos from Destination BC Content Hub.

The Readers' Choice initiative was launched last year to give Lonely Planet readers an opportunity to share and celebrate their favourite destinations, organizations, products, and experiences. This year, the awards have been adapted into three overarching categories: Sustainability, Community, and Diversity. As tourism starts to come back in the weeks and months ahead, we know that all three of these priorities will be top of mind as we Move Forward Better.

From now throughout the month of December, you can vote for your favourite Destination in the three noted subject areas, with winners announced in mid-January. It is free to participate and all you need to make a nomination is a working email address.

Here's how to nominate the Thompson Okanagan in three easy steps:

1. Go to the Lonely Planet's Best In Travel page before December 31, 2020

2. Nominate the Thompson Okanagan region in the area of Sustainability with your story of responsible tourism

3. Let your followers and industry colleagues know how to do the same by sharing the link (lonelyplanet.com/best-in-travel?ballot=open) or the TOTA News Centre Post

Life is not going to be the same for some time to come but when we are once again traveling it would be great to ensure the Thompson Okanagan's story of Sustainability is top of mind with travelers.

Thank you for taking the time to nominate the region and to continue to support the important work that we are all doing to ensure the long term success of tourism.

- Glenn Mandziuk, TOTA President & CEO
