We are open! On Saturday, November 23, Sun Peaks Resort was the first BC interior resort to kick off the 2019/20 ski and snowboard season!
Competition for first chair was fierce this year, with a challenge thrown down in the early morning hours of last winter’s Opening Day leading to two groups showing up within minutes of each other on Friday to pitch tents and claim the honour. Ultimately the home court advantage of some local groms was enough to narrowly beat out the dedicated crew of stokers who snagged first chair last year.
Local groms Mastin Hooper, Charlie Roberts, and Morgan Franklin claimed first chair.
Settling in for the night with second chair of the season safely secured.
After a chilly night protecting their prize, the most dedicated skiers on the mountain were joined by plenty more people excited for their first snow sliding of the season. At 9:00am the wait was finally over, with the first chair loading as cheers echoed through the valley.
Check out all the action from Opening Day:
Cinnamon buns and hot chocolate pair perfectly with the first turns of winter.
There were plenty of our world famous cinnamon buns to go around!
Harry Bear spreading the stoke.
Fueling up for the day ahead.
Ski Patrol was ready to welcome everyone for opening.
And they’re off for the first lap of the year!
Plenty of smiles as guests hit the 5 Mile to get their ski legs back.
Everyone was happy to be back on the slopes.
Getting those turns in on day one of the winter.
The annual Après and Ales party is always a hit.
A big thanks to Granville Island Brewing for bringing the patio games!
Masa’s Bar + Grill was packed with happy people toasting to the start of the 2019/20 season.
A big thank you to everyone who joined us for another fun Opening Day here in Sun Peaks! While terrain remains limited for the next few days, we’re hopeful that with a favourable forecast and a bit of help from Mother Nature we’ll have more runs open soon.
See you in the mountains!
