Pick of the Patch at Davison Orchards
Visitors who arrive on the first weekend of the annual Family Pumpkin Festival at Davison Orchards get first dibs or “Pick of the Patch” of the best pumpkins.
There is no shortage of pumpkins but finding the perfect pumpkin has become a great tradition for many families at Davison Orchards. During the Pumpkin Festival you can also enjoy beautiful fall scenery, delicious pumpkin scones and spiced hot apple cider, and an assortment of fresh apples, squash, and decorative gourds in the market.
“Our apple harvest is fantastic this year and we want to thank everyone for coming out all month to pick up their favourite apples. As we transition into October, we invite families to return to the farm to take part in our pumpkin festivities.” – Tamra Davison, Marketing Director.
Visitors can take a ride out to the Pumpkin Patch on the Johnny Popper Train and pick the perfect pumpkin right from the field. There are plenty of outdoor activities for children including walking through a pumpkin castle, visiting the farm animals and the Pumpkin Princess, playing in the farm-themed playground including giant straw bales for climbing. New this year, Kiki the Autumn Fairy will be entertaining kids on Saturdays from 12:30 pm – 3:00 pm. And of course there are the famous Davison Orchards pumpkin people to see, music by the “Pumpkin Butter Band”, and gorgeous displays around every corner. Complimentary photography sessions with S. Rowat Photography are available on a first come first basis on Sunday, October 6th from 11:30 am – 3:30 pm.
The menu from the Farmhouse Café includes seasonal items such as pumpkin steamers, butternut squash soup, and Farmhouse chili. Now available in the market are Davison’s best-selling apple cinnamon butter and old fashioned caramel sauce. There are four varieties of pies fresh baked daily this fall including deep dish apple, apple crumble, bumbleberry and pumpkin pie. The Davison bakery is now taking advance pie orders for Thanksgiving weekend.
“We offer additional family entertainment and fire up the BBQ on Saturdays and Sundays. Not only are we celebrating the bounty of the harvest, but another successful season. It won’t be long now before we begin juicing our cold pressed apple juice and making our preserves. But for now, it’s a great time to gather family and friends, explore our farm, and enjoy the tastes of our fall harvest.”
U-Pick pumpkin tractor rides run from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm on Fridays and Saturdays (as well as Thanksgiving Monday, October 14th) and from 10:30 am – 4:00 pm on Sundays in October. Great for parents with toddlers, there are U-Pick Pumpkin rides on Tuesday mornings in October, at 10:00 am and 11:00 am. The cost is $9 (+GST) all ages which includes a pumpkin of any size. Johnny Popper train rides without a pumpkin are also available at $6/adult and $4/children (2-12 years) and infants are free. Davison Orchards is open daily, 8:00 am – 6:00 pm until October 30th, closing early at 5:00 pm on October 31st, the last day open to the public. There is no admission fee to visit the farm.
