The Honeycrisp apples have arrived and they are as sweet as ever.
Davison Honeycrisp apples are by far the most requested variety of apples but there is an abundance of varieties to choose from. Over 20 different types of apples are grown at Davison Orchards, everything from the original McIntosh variety to the more modern varieties such as Silken, Jonagold, and Arlet. Reasonable temperatures, a bit of rain, and lots of sunshine has helped the apple crop thrive this season.
For the month of September, Davison Orchards is focusing on everything apple. Not only can you purchase fresh, cold-pressed apple juice, apple pie, hot apple cider and caramel apples, but you can take a tour of the orchard and pick a bag of your favourite variety of apples on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays as well as Thanksgiving Monday. In addition, U-Pick apple tours are available on Tuesday, September 17th and 24th, at 10:00 am and 11:00 am.
On Saturdays and Sundays in September, the “Make A Mini Pie” event takes place from 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm. Perfect for children, they can learn how to make a pie from scratch and take it home to bake fresh, for only $5. Families are welcome to drop-in and take part.
U-Pick Apple Tours run from 10:00 am – 4:00 pm on Fridays and Saturdays and from 10:30 am – 4:00 pm on Sundays in September. The cost is $12 (+GST) which includes a 10-pound bag of apples or $7 for kids which includes the tour and a mini bag of u-pick apples. Johnny Popper Train Tours without U-Pick apples are also running at $7/adult and $4/children (2-12 years) and infants are free. Davison Orchards is open daily, 8:00 am – 6:00 pm until October 31st.
