Just in time for summer, Vernon’s newest waterfront park is just about ready to open.
What was once Camp Hurlburt, is now Hurlburt Park on Eastside Road and it will open to the public on June 28.
The regional district purchased the land from Trinity United Church which operated a youth camp on the site for decades.
The land sold for $2.3 million.
According to a city report, the park will open later this month, but not all of the work is complete “as the contractor was unable to complete planting within the restricted planting window, this will be done in the fall for best survival rates. An annual rye grass will be planted for the summer to ensure the topsoil is stabilized and prevent the intrusion of weed species.”
The grand opening of the park is scheduled for 10 a.m. Aug. 2.
