The Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association invites you to celebrate National Indigenous Peoples Day in Canada on Friday, June 21st, 2019. The Thompson Okanagan region is located on the unceded territory of the Syilx (Okanagan), the Secwepemc (Shuswap) and Nlaka’pamux (Thompson) Peoples, and we hope all of our stakeholders and partners will join in celebrations large or small taking place throughout the region and will join us in acknowledging the rich history of the regions Indigenous Communities.
This is a day of celebration but it is also a time for reflection and recognition of past that saw the ongoing victimization and betrayal of Indigenous people across Canada. It is through the telling of stories and understanding the truth that we can come together in real reconciliation working toward a future of cooperation and collaboration.
TOTA will be very active throughout the day on our Thompson Okanagan socials (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) as well as taking part in events happening around the region showcasing the distinct Indigenous history and culture in the Thompson Okanagan. We hope you will do the same and encourage you to share your photos and videos!
