Tourism Kelowna was the big winner last week when the BC Tourism Industry Awards were held in Vancouver.
The organization was named the province’s destination marketing organization (DMO) of the year, which recognized the organization that had the best performance, accountability and commitment to B.C.’s tourism industry.
“To be awarded for DMO professional excellence comes with a great deal of pride,” Tourism Kelowna board chair Thom Killingsworth said in a press release. “As Kelowna continues to see exponential growth, our board and staff remain committed to increasing visitation year-round and producing memorable experiences for guests in the market.
“We’re appreciative of the recognition of our efforts and extend our praise to our local tourism industry for their hard work and support.”
Tourism Kelowna had a busy 2018, as it opened its new visitors’ centre in downtown Kelowna and had to battle smoky conditions for most of the summer. The organization is currently focused on developing a four-season campaign to make up for future summer losses.
Other Okanagan winners at the awards ceremony last week were:
• Jan Dobbener, Quails’ Gate Estate Winery, Customer Service Award
• Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association, Innovation Award
• Accent Inns, Employees First Award
