Nk'Mip Children's Art
Over 150 guests packed the gallery on January 19 for the opening celebration for our current special exhibition, Our Lives Through Our Eyes: Nk’Mip Children’s Art, a unique partnership with the Kelowna Art Gallery. Guests were visibly moved by the words of Jane Stelkia, one of the last living student artists to contribute to this body of work. Many were inspired by the insights shared by Guest Curator, Dr. Andrea Walsh of the University of Victoria, who has developed deep relationships with members of the Osoyoos Indian Band during the 18 years she has studied this body of work.
School children, university students, and guests of all ages are enjoying the exhibition and programs. “Collaborating with the Kelowna Art Gallery, in partnership with Sncəwips Heritage Museum, Osoyoos Indian Band, Osoyoos Museum, and Dr. Walsh has been a deeply rewarding experience,” remarks Linda Digby, Executive Director. “We invite everyone to experience it.”
The next special exhibition at the Okanagan Heritage Museum is Birds of Prey, a travelling display from the Royal BC Museum. This stunning display includes mounted specimens of 16 species of owl and 19 species of vulture, hawk, eagle, and falcon native to Canada. Watch for an invitation to the opening celebration!
