5th Annual Winter Kick Off Camp a Success
Sun Peaks Resort recently played host to over 75 skiers for the 5th annual, Winter Kick Off Camp. The camp is an opportunity for enthusiastic skiers to knock the summer rust off and start the season with a bang. Most participants are recreational skiers, while others are members of the Canadian Ski Instructor’s Alliance looking for a tune up.
The ongoing success of the camp is easily attributed to the great early season conditions and the quality of the coaching staff. Coaches for the Kick Off weekend are hand picked from Western Canada, with most being Level 4 CSIA members or the international equivalent. This year the camp saw 13 coaches leading groups during the 3 day camp, with some familiar names on the roster. Recognized professionals like Anne Terwiel, Glenn Wurtele, Gord Brown, Kathy Broderick, and a host of other incredibly talented ski teachers all delivered quality tuition.
A highlight of the weekend was a camp banquet at the Sunburst Lodge. The lodge, which sits at mid-mountain, hosted a fantastic fondue dinner. Entertainment was provided by local recording artist, Madison Olds, who was accompanied by her father, David Olds. The duo were a perfect soundtrack to a unique mountain experience. Following dinner, guests donned headlamps and had a moonlight ski back to the Village.
Campers from as far away as Ontario and Washington State commented on how enjoyable the whole weekend was. In addition to the great skiing; campers had the option to do workshops in ski tuning, boot fitting, myofascial release and ski specific stretching. Most vowed to be back for Kick Off number 6, in November 2019.
