Some ski hills in B.C. are delaying their opening day, but not Big White.
Big White has seven runs open and a 66-centimetre snow base, with three lifts open.
Jim Loyd, sales director with Big White, tells Castanet: “the Ridge Rocket will spin at 8:45 a.m. and we’re celebrating opening day with a party at the bottom of the Ridge Rocket Express.”
The first run of the season is always a good time, but you can also look forward to music, free hot chocolate, and giveaways.
Today is also the final day to purchase your pre-season pass.
Something else new on the hill this season will be BeaverTails, a tasty pastry treat well known in the east and in Canmore Alberta.
Jason Coyle and his wife Kristin are bringing the delectable delight to the Okanagan and will be offering Beavertails from their mobile food unit right on the hill, based at Gem Lake. “We just always wanted to work at Big White and this is a great way for us to provide a tasty product and run our family business out of the Okanagan.”
Big White is always trying something new and this year they are offering a promotion called, ‘Never Ever Days’, geared towards first-time skiers Jim says it’s perfect for adults who have never skied but want to give it a try. “If you want to give it a go, skiing or snowboarding it’s $25 dollars, for rental gear, four hours of lessons, we’ll feed you lunch and we’ll celebrate it all with an apres party,” says Loyd.
You can sign up at bigwhite.com and there are two opportunities, one in December and another in February.
