This is as farm-to-table as it gets
So the folks at The Acorn and the Arbor—y’know, the ones who put veggies front and centre on Main Street—are playing around with the whole farm-to-table concept. For one night this month they’re bringing the table to the farm, setting up an exclusive dinner at their longtime produce supplier Klippers Organics’ farm in Cawston.
Guests get a guided tour of the farm, followed by a five course plant-based dinner prepared by Acorn chefs Brian Luptak and Devon Latte. Wine pairings will come from the leading light of the Similkameen Valley, Orofino winery, which just happens to be Klippers’ next door neighbour.
“We’re so lucky to live in an area that can provide such incredible produce and wine,” says Acorn and Arbor owner Shira Blustein. She says this event was inspired by a farm dinner they held at Klippers a few years ago. “We were literally pulling baby carrots out of the ground in the morning, cleaning them off and serving them at dinner. We want to recreate that experience.”
If you go, you may find yourself appearing in The Acorn’s forthcoming cookbook, slated for release in Spring of 2020. They’ll be taking photos for the book at dinner. Bluestein says the book will capture a year of life at the Acorn, and showcasing some of their favourite growers and winemakers from the interior is an important part of that year.
The dinner will be held on August 23rd at Klippers Organics, 2200 Ferko Road in Cawston. They have seating for forty guests, tickets are $120 each.
