Experience the Canadian Wilderness in a safe environment while learning the skills required for venturing out for overnight hiking trips on your own.
This 4 day course begins Thursday afternoon. Friday morning will be spent in the class and the afternoon in the field. On the third day (Saturday) Peter will guide the class into the backcountry where everyone will have firsthand experience setting up camp. The evening will be spent in the mountains, and then there will be a debrief when back in town on the fourth and final day. This course is a great introduction to the knowledge and planning necessary to execute a safe and fun backpacking experience.
Whether you are looking to refresh your skills, learn new ones, or go out into the wilderness with confidence, this course is the perfect fit for you! Basic navigation, packing for a trip, wildlife protocols, planning, and the best practices needed for planning a backpacking trip will all be covered.
Though no experience is required, some hiking background is recommended.
