SilverStar Emergency Services Day to Feature Rescue Skills in Action

Nine of the Vernon region’s most skilled Emergency Services teams will present thrilling demonstrations and showcases at SilverStar Mountain Resort’s Emergency Services Day, on Saturday, February 17, benefitting Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation (VJHF).

The all-day event honours first responders and everyone who steps up to help people in crisis situations. From a heli-winch rescue to avalanche search techniques, Emergency Services Day features first-hand the skills and equipment brought into action to assist those in need.

SilverStar Operations Director Brad Baker says, “The day showcases the skills and equipment of our local First Responders. Demonstrations will be done by the RCMP, Vernon Search and Rescue, Central Okanagan Search & Rescue, Shuswap Search & Rescue, SilverStar Ski Patrol, FACTS First Aid, St John’s Ambulance, and The Dragoons.”

Emergency Services team demonstrations are scheduled every half hour through the day from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. There will also be information booths in the village for anyone interested in learning more about what emergency services teams do and the equipment they use in their work.

Emergency Services Day in support of VJHF is an evolution of SilverStar’s annual fundraising efforts for the local charity. On February 17, SilverStar will be donating $20 from every full-day adult alpine lift ticket sold to the Vernon Jubilee Hospital Foundation.

“SilverStar’s Emergency Services Day is a great community event that highlights the dedication our first responders have for the well-being of our community and SilverStar’s commitment to supporting health care for all North Okanagan residents,” said Lisa Westermark, VJH Foundation Executive Director.
