The lineup has been chosen for this February’s Canadian Culinary Championships in Kelowna.
As Canada’s Olympic athletes get set for the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games, so are the 11 chefs who will face off at Gold Medal Plates.
The top regional chefs will compete in Kelowna Feb. 2-3. They are:
- British Columbia: Alex Chen – Boulevard Kitchen & Oyster Bar, Vancouver
- Edmonton: Shane Chartrand – SAGE
- Calgary: Blake Flann – BLAKE from Canmore
- Regina: David Vinoya – Wild Sage Kitchen & Bar
- Saskatoon: James McFarland – University of Saskatchewan
- Winnipeg: Mike Robins – Sous Sol
- Toronto: Lorenzo Loseto – George Restaurant
- Ottawa: Briana Kim – Cafe My House
- Montreal: Eric Gonzalez – L’Atelier Joel Robuchon
- Nova Scotia: Barry Mooney – Gio
- St. John’s: Nick Jewczyk – The Fifth Ticket
“Be prepared to be wowed at what the chefs can do on minimal budgets, timed competitions and preparing food for hundreds of people at … the Mystery Wine Pairing Competition, Black Box Competition and the Grand Finale events,” says Gold Medal Plates co-founder Karen Blair.

Co-founder Stephen Leckie says this year’s Mystery Wine Pairing Competition will add the twist of “Gold Medal Pints,” in which judges will determine Canada’s gold, silver and bronze beers.
The Saturday night Grand Finale will feature music by Neil Osborne of 54/40 and Olympic ski cross gold medalist Ashleigh McIvor as emcee.
