The Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality has announced the appointment of two physicians to the Sun Peaks Family Practice. The new Medical Director, Dr. Shane Barclay, will work with the Sun Peaks Health Centre Executive Director, Laura Bantock, to establish and run the primary care practice, which is scheduled to open on December 11, 2017. Dr. Harpreet Kelly will join the team in January 2018.
“I am very excited about the opportunity to create a sustainable, team-based approach to family medicine at Sun Peaks,” commented Barclay. “It’s a unique situation because we are starting from the ground up, building an integrated team of healthcare professionals in a fantastic purpose-built facility.”
Sun Peaks’ Mayor, Al Raine, expressed his gratitude following the long journey to fund, build and staff the new Health Centre. “We are so thankful for the numerous volunteers and their tireless efforts that helped us bring the facility to this stage. We are about to realize our vision of having primary care on the mountain for residents, visitors and the broader community.”
The Sun Peaks Family Practice will operate from the new Sun Peaks Health Centre, offering weekday services for full and part-time residents of Sun Peaks, as well as advanced access care for seasonal visitors to Sun Peaks Resort. Patients in the surrounding communities, currently without a family doctor, are also eligible to join the practice. As of December 4th, the public can reach the office at 778-644-0635.
Sun Peaks Mountain Resort Municipality wants to specifically thank Thompson Region – Division of Family Practice for helping to market and recruit family doctors.
