Those smoky skies cleared up across B.C. by September and tourists flocked to the province, with many arriving from Australia and Germany.
There were 26,478 more international visitors to B.C. that month, an increase of 4.6 per cent, compared to September of last year, according to Statistics Canada. In all, 599,359 foreign visitors crossed B.C.’s borders.
September’s growth was partly due to an increase in direct flights to the province.
Visitor numbers from Australia were up 19.6 per cent while those from Germany climbed 18.6 per cent.
The number of American travellers, including same day visitors, climbed 7.4 per cent.
