Calling all sinners and saints. Enter if you dare. You’ll find gluttony, wrath, and treachery around every turn.
The O’Keefe Ranch haunted corn maze Field of Screams, Dante’s Inferno: The Descent, inspired by Dante’s Inferno and the nine circles of hell, opens on Friday the 13th. The annual fundraising event features two new mazes on four acres of land situated in the corn fields at the Ranch. It’s an unpredictable experience in each maze.
Journey through a world where the sun is silent, where the wicked play, where the gluttonous wallow, where the tormented wail, where the miserly hoard their possessions, where the winds of corruption blow, where otherworldly beasts howl in the darkness, where the very essence of evil is trapped, where the condemned are lost for eternity. Will you abandon all hope and become a lost soul? Will your attempts to flee be futile? Or will you be one of the fortunate souls that escapes Dante’s Inferno?
This year the quality of the production has improved in several areas including lighting, sound, make-up and special effects. It is technically superior to previous years, with totally different sensory experiences in each maze. They are mazes of choices – mazes within mazes. Pick a door, choose a path, and hope that you don’t become a lost soul. With 30 actors and larger sets this year, there is something around every corner.
“Every year the corn maze gets better. We start to plan and build in the summer months to create an unforgettable experience every fall at the Ranch. It takes months of preparation and over 5000 volunteer hours but the outcome is considerable. It’s the single largest fundraising event every year for the O’Keefe Ranch. In 2016 we had 10,000 admissions to Field of Screams and I would like to increase the attendance even more. And on our 150th anniversary year, this event is a reminder that we need to make it a huge success and keep the Ranch open for the next 150 years.” – Glen Taylor, General Manager.
Field of Screams runs for 11 nights in total; October 13, 14, 18, 19, 20, 21, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28. Doors open at 6:00 pm and the mazes are open from 7:00 pm – 10:00 pm. Tickets are $10 per maze and are available at the door. On Tuesday, October 24th, admission to both mazes is just $15. Food vendors are on-site every night.
