Freak’n Farmer Obstacle Race Returns to Covert Farms, September 23

Farm-themed adventure obstacle course race, lunch, live music and more

There is still time to register for the sixth annual Freak’n Farmer, taking place at Covert Farms on Saturday, September 23. An epic adventure featuring 25 farm-themed obstacles, participants can choose to partake in 5km, 10km or 20km courses. In addition, there are two races geared to kids: the 3km Little Freak’n Farmer (ages 6 to 12 years) and the .75km Mini Freak’n Farmer (ages 3 to 6 years).

Presented by Penticton Home Hardware and coordinated by Hoodoo Adventures and Covert Farms, the family-friendly event also features a post-race lunch. This year, athlete meals will be provided by event catering company, Fuel Your Fire, offering farm fresh and gluten-free healthy food options. Local wine, beer and ciders will also be available to enjoy post-race. Live music, supplied by Feet First, will entertain the crowd throughout the day.

For more than 50 years the Covert Family has been farming the 650-acres of Covert Farms north of Oliver. Inspired by history, the Freak’n Farmer adventure obstacle race was born – an event that speaks to the many tasks that farmhands had to perform in the dry heat of Canada’s desert region.

Spectators are welcome to catch the action with hop-on/hop-off farm transportation available by donation with partial proceeds going to support the Youth Outdoor Recreation Society (YORS), a not-for-profit – founded by Lyndie Hill, co-owner of Hoodoo Adventures – which subsidizes outdoor recreation programs for local youth. A $25 spectator fee includes lunch and a keepsake glass with two tickets to sample local wine and beer.

The 2017 Freak’n Farmer event is made possible with the generous support of the following partners: Penticton Home Hardware, 97 SUN FM, EZ Rock 800, Grey Back Construction, Grizzly Excavation and Nature’s Fare Markets.

Registration is open until September 17.
