Kamloops Children’s Arts Festival takes on circus theme with “Under the Big Top” Sept. 15 & 16

Family dance & karaoke party Friday, Sept. 15; activities & performances Saturday, Sept. 16, Riverside Park

Dreams of running off to join the circus could become reality at the 18th annual Kamloops Children’s Arts Festival, Sept. 15 & 16.

The theme of this year’s festival, the 18th annual, is “Under the Big Top!”, featuring circus-themed art, music, dance and theatre for children ages two and up.

The big-top theme arrived naturally. “We had rain for last year’s festival,” says Kathy Sinclair, Kamloops Arts Council executive director. “This year, we decided to hedge our bets by bringing everything under a 40’x100′ tent!”

On Friday, Sept. 15 from 3:30 to 6pm, bring the family to Riverside Park for karaoke, dancing and a special performance by Kiki the Eco Elf.

On Saturday, Sept. 16 from 10am to 4pm, families can enjoy a full day of FREE arts activities and performances at Riverside Park. Performers on the Interior Savings Stage include The Purple Pirate, returning vocal percussionist / live looper RupLoops (Rup Sidhu), Magician Clinton W. Gray and many others.

Workshops, led by local artists and organizations, will include circus-themed activities such as masks and clown accessories, puppets, animation, artful balancing, dressup photo booth, various paint and paper crafts as well facepainting, henna, dance and more!

Western Canada Theatre’s VW Turtle River Race and Participaction 150’s Play List cross-country tour will be taking place concurrently at the park.

Thanks to the sponsors, all Children’s Arts Festival activities are offered at no charge. With support from the City of Kamloops, transit to Saturday’s activities at the park is also free; stop by the KAC office at 7 Seymour Street West for a free bus pass, or call 250.372.7323.
