Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association team attends Rendezvous Canada targeting the Travel Trade for increased overnight stays in the region
Rendez-vous Canada (RVC) is Canada’s premier international tourism marketplace lead by Destination Canada, connecting international buyers with Canadian sellers of tourism products.
The event, held annually in a different Canadian city, reunites some 1,500 international tourism industry leaders gathered for a series of speed-dating-style appointments. International buyers seek the best-matched Canadian tourism sellers. The end result: travellers get to choose from the best selection of Canadian experiences.
This year’s event was held in Calgary and three members of the TOTA attended. As part of Team BC, Howard Grieve, Travel Trade and Media Specialist, Ellen Walker-Matthews, VP of Industry and Destination Development, and Bryan Pilbeam, TOTA Board Chair attended. Over a full three days, Howard and Ellen participated in over 130 appointments with buyers from around the world.
Interest in Canada as a whole continues to be high with BC always as one of the top destinations in the country. The Thompson Okanagan continues to shine and is experiencing growth from all markets. The FIT business is growing faster than group tours according to reports by buyers but groups tours are continuing to grow from the China market. RV travel from Europe and the UK continues to grow with a need for more units and campgrounds being requested by buyers.
Winter activities continue to grow especially from the Australia and US markets. Interest in parks, scenic natural wonders, soft adventure, wildlife viewing and wine and culinary touring are most requested for summer product.
For 2018, Rendezvous Canada will be held in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
