TOTA recently attended Canada Media Marketplace in New York to pitch story ideas to top US Media.
As part of Team BC, TOTA attended Destination Canada’s Canada Media Marketplace in New York April 3 – 5 to promote the Thompson Okanagan Region to top US Media.
Canada Media Marketplace (CMM) is about great storytelling. The annual event brings together the best in US travel media with provincial/territorial and regional Canadian tourism organizations, major hotel properties, attractions and transportation companies. Alternating between New York and San Francisco, CMM is the place to be to gather new story ideas, inspiration and background material, develop personal relationships with Canadian media-relations representatives and to network with other American and Canadian media. The show offers one-on-one meetings between partners and US media, professional development, and entertaining and interactive networking opportunities.
Glenn Mandziuk, CEO and Howard Grieve, Travel Trade and Media Specialist attended and participated in 38 appointments. Somewhat like speed dating, 15 minute sessions allow for relationship building and exploring how our stories can be converted into earned media or unpaid advertising. Several familiarization trips are being planned to bring US media into the region to research content for articles and blogs.
Next year’s event will be in San Fransisco and once again TOTA will be attending with refreshed story ideas and new product announcements.
