150 Years of Canadian Art Shine at Liquidity Wines

In celebration of Canada’s 150th birthday, Liquidity Wines is proud to announce the launch of a series of exhibits, artist workshops, free events and lectures taking place throughout 2017. Located in the Heart of Wine Country™ in Okanagan Falls, the Liquidity experience extends beyond wine and food; art installations in the vineyard go along with paintings and photographs in the sleek bistro and tasting room.

Guided by his deep-rooted passion for art and culture, Liquidity Wines President Ian MacDonald and his team have brought the winery beyond barrel and bottle, creating an engaging experience for visitors, diners and wine-lovers alike.

Saturday, May 13 marks the unveiling of “The Dinner Party” by Jeff Burgess – the renowned artist and mind behind the massive ensemble painting on display at Liquidity, commonly known as the “Pope Painting.” The anticipated exhibition this spring will reveal Burgess’ latest large-scale piece, which melds ancient mythology with Old Master’s influences along with classic literature and modern symbolism. A walk and talk session at 10:00am will offer guests an exclusive opportunity to meet Burgess and learn about the many layers of meaning behind his work and artistic process.

From June 3 to July 2, Liquidity will host award-winning photographer David Burdeny for an exclusive photographic exhibition entitled “OCEAN.” Featuring a selection of Burdeny’s favourite images captured as he explored the world’s oceans, this will be the first time Liquidity has dedicated its entire gallery to a retrospective of his work. To kick off the exhibit, the winery will host a walk and talk session with Burdeny on Saturday, June 3 at 10:00am.

This summer, Liquidity will be joining forces with Noble Ridge Winery and the Federation of Canadian Artists the weekend of July 15 for Art & Wine in the Vines.

This encompassing weekend of art and viticulture will feature an art walk through the two adjoining vineyards, artists demonstrating plein-air painting and showcasing their works, plus wine tasting stations. There will also be special dining events to partake in, including Vine Dining on the Saturday evening at Noble Ridge and Sunday Brunch at Liquidity Bistro.

During this weekend, Liquidity is also proud to welcome Vancouver-based sculptor Marie Khouri for an intimate artist lecture. Khouri represents the broad multicultural diverse demographic of Western Canada, and has developed a vast range of cultural and historical influences within her practice. Taking place on Saturday, July 15 from 3-4pm, Khouri will share insight into her process, artistic practice and personal biography; the lecture is certain to enlighten and entertain art enthusiasts.

As the leaves turn colour for fall so do the gallery walls, hosting the masterful works of celebrated Canadian artist Tim Okamura from September 9 to October 9. On Saturday, September 9 at 10:00am, Okamura will host a walk and talk session at Liquidity, unveiling his major new exhibit of paintings: “My Music.” Okamura is now based in New York, and the winery is excited to welcome him back to Canada this fall and to commit the entire gallery space to his work. Shortlisted to paint Queen Elizabeth and a recipient of the New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship in Painting – Okamura’s exhibit is not to be missed.

The art series events at Liquidity Wines are free and open to the public, providing guests with an up-close and personal opportunity to meet acclaimed Canadian artists. Space for the walk and talk sessions and artist lectures are limited; those interested in attending are encouraged to book online at Liquiditywines.com or call (778) 515-5500.
