2017 workshop and event season at wilderness retreat

art workshops, crafting workshops and retreats

Bear Valley Highlands is getting ready for another season of workshops, activities and eco friendly tourism. Besides different types of off grid accommodation, such as a mongolian yurt, a Sioux style tipi lodge as well as 2 handcrafted log chalets, they also host a variety of workshops.

This year’s season will start with a painting workshop featuring 2 master plein air painters and adventure travellers, Dominik Modlinski and David McEown on May 4-7. Both are highly successful painters who also share their travel experiences through videos in the evenings.

2 more wonderful artists will conduct workshops in May, Tim Schumm in dramatic landscapes and Jean Pederson, a well known author of several art books, in mixed media.

June will be their first try at a ” back to the roots” workshop, featuring Charles Ruechel from Elements Adventure and Anneh Kessels, the willow bender as well as Barbara Fresz from Bear Valley Highlands. Participants will explore how to weave gathering baskets, learn about local plants and how to make simple goat cheese as well as sourdough breads. Charles will also introduce them to the magic of canoeing on their small private lake.

2 more painting classes in June will conclude their workshop season with Oil painters Ron Hedrick and Ingrid Christensen to paint landscapes and flowers. All of their workshops are open to all levels of painters and students have a choice to stay on site or commute to the workshop.

Bear Valley Highlands has become a refuge and space to retreat for people looking for a quiet getaway and a different holiday experience and while their accommodations are self contained with all amenities, Barbara and Joe treat their guests to home cooked, organic meals during workshops.
