Journalists rescently visited the Thompson Region to research content for an article in Explore Magazine
Journalists Katharine and Eric Fletcher from Quebec and Wolfgang Greiner from Germany recently visited the Thompson Okanagan and were hosted by TOTA, Destination BC, Tourism Kamloops, Tourism Sun Peaks and Tourism Wells Gray. The Wonder of Winter is a TOTA campaign to feature non-ski winter activities in the region. A story idea around this was pitched at the 2016 GoMedia Marketplace in Montreal and interest was high by many journalists. Katherine and Eric were researching for an article in Explore Magazine and other outlets while Wolfgang was researching for his own magazines Skipresse and Roadtrips.
First stop was sunset snowshoeing with ACT Adventures based in Kamloops and the 2.5 hr trip features mountain top vistas, spectacular night sky viewing and a hearty chili dinner around a campfire near Kamloops. Guided dog sledding by Mountain Man Adventures and guided ice fishing with Elevated Fishing Adventures at Sun Peaks was next and these activities are just two of many non-ski activities offered at the resort. From there the trip moved on to Wells Gray Provincial Park where snowshoeing to observe moose in their prime winter viewing months of January and February was the focus. Evenings were spent in comfortable, cozy cabins with all meals included. Clearwater Lake Tours offers guided and non-guided trips into the Clearwater Lake area and includes trips to view the frozen masterpieces of Helmcken, Dawson and Spahats falls.
Wonder of Winter experiences will continue to be featured in new product bulletins and story ideas for consumer awareness and to increase tourism revenues in the region during the low season.
