BC Tourism Industry Conference Kicks Off Feb 22

Just two weeks away!

#BCTIC begins Wednesday, February 22nd with TIABC’s Town Hall, providing attendees with an update on the tourism advocacy efforts and facilitating a discussion with industry leaders on the challenges facing the industry. Following the Town Hall is The Winning Pitch competition – tourism students, winners of regional competitions, will demonstrate their strategic thinking and presentation skills to a live audience who will help determine the ultimate winner. The opening reception follows, aiming to attract provincial MLAs and Ministers in Victoria during a sitting of the house.

The conference welcomes keynote speaker Sunny Lenarduzzi, a social media maven named a “30 Under 30” by BC Business. Throughout the conference, both Destination Canada and Destination BC will present updates to industry on the recent successes and plans for the future and on Thursday Feb 23rd Honourable Shirley Bond, Minister of Jobs, Tourism and Skills Training will address the industry.

Conference registrants will choose from concurrent session topics all designed to reflect various components of the #BCTourismMatters theme: for example, wine and culinary tourism, film tourism, reporting economic impact, recruitment solutions, Trip Advisor, BC’s Ale Trail, emergency planning, event marketing, future of YVR, adventure travel, working with local First Nations and social media. The conference closes with Jowi Taylor sharing his Six String Nation presentation – centered around a single acoustic guitar, nicknamed Voyageur and built from over sixty pieces of Canadian history representing different cultures, communities and characters from every part of the country.
