TOTA attends the 2016 CITAP Winter Event in Vancouver to promote the Thompson Okanagan to the Asian markets..
On Tuesday, December 13 Howard Grieve, Travel Trade and Media Specialist for the Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association attended the Canadian Inbound Tourism Association Asia Pacific Winter Event in Vancouver, BC. This event at the Hyatt Regency was attended by sellers and buyers from across Canada who come together to network, share ideas and make deals with the Asian markets. The day begins with keynote speakers and this year, Destination Canada delivered a seminar on social media best practices, Aboriginal Tourism Canada delivered a seminar on Aboriginal Tourism products, plans and trends, and the Tourism Industry Association of Canada provided an update on their activities and projects relating to Tourism advocacy in Canada.
Following the keynote speakers, a 4 hour mini-marketplace was held and TOTA manned a booth for the duration handing out collateral, discussing new product, itineraries and buyer business and growth to the region. Over 70 representatives of Receptive Tour Operators stopped by the booth to chat and enter to win a bottle of wine. Congratulations to Takanobu Sugamata, Operations Manager – Vancouver for Maple Fun Tours Ltd. whose name was drawn at the booth. TOTA also provided a bottle of wine to the organizers for a door prize and Chiaki Hayashi, Tour Coordinator, Leisure Business for JTB was the lucky winner..Congratulations.
Following the mini-marketplace, a reception and sit down dinner were hosted and tables of sellers were strategically placed with three RTO representatives each for further opportunities to exchange ideas.
