Funds for the Okanagan Rail Trail could top $2 million by the end of the month.
The Kalamalka Rotary Dream Auction held in Vernon on Saturday (Nov 19) raised close to $255,000 for community groups and projects, with the trail a big winner.
The gala auction raised $88,000 in pledges for the trail, according to Brian Reid, Kal Rotary president.
“It was a great amount for a great project,” said Reid.
By the end of October, the rail trail had received $1.922 million in donations and matching funds. The new money should tip that over the $2 million mark, said Reid.
Fundraiser Brad Clements said the new pledges won’t be counted until everything is official, but he thanked Kal Rotary for its efforts on behalf of the rail trail and the community.
Last month, Kal Rotary donated $50,000 to the rail trail project, an amount matched by anonymous donors for a total of $100,000.
A total of $7.86 million is needed for the first phase of the work on the almost 50-kilometre line between Coldstream and Kelowna.
