Receptive Tour Operator Fall Foliage and New Product Travel Trade Fam

Destination BC, TOTA and regional DMO partners hosted 11 key Travel Trade representatives in region to research shoulder season and new export ready product.

The Thompson Okanagan Region welcomed 12 representatives of  Receptive Tour Operators and Destination BC touring from September 29 – October 2. These businesses act as local experts wholesaling tourism products for their partners around the world. During the familiarization tours, participants are able to experience the activities and products they promote and sell to better service their their clients.  Special thanks go out to our partners at Destination BC (co-host), Tourism Kelowna, Tourism Vernon, Shuswap Tourism, Tourism Kamloops, Tourism Wells Gray and Tourism Sun Peaks who made arrangements, contributed financially and joined the fam for portions of the tour.

Traveling in a 20 pax motorcoach provided by Distraction Tours, Laura Hoppe, Destination BC and Howard Grieve, TOTA co-hosted the group from start to finish. Highlights on this tour were the visits to new wineries, First Nations’ experiences, seeing a spirit bear at the BC Wildlife Park and a visit to the waterfalls of Wells Gray Provincial Park. Site inspections were made at hotels, restaurants, pubs, wineries, attractions while exploring the fall foliage of the Thompson and Okanagan Valleys. The itinerary took the group from Kelowna, to Vernon, through the Shuswap, over to Kamloops, up to Wells Gray Provincial Park and finished in Sun Peaks.

Post fam surveys were very good and indicated a strong interest in considering the Thompson Okanagan for Fall Foliage Tours rather than travelling to Eastern Canada, especially for the Asian market.
