Penticton’s two tourism organizations voted today, Oct. 14, to dissolve their organizations and become one.
The Penticton Hospitality Association and Tourism Penticton both voted to dissolve in favour of a coordinated effort to be known as Travel Penticton today.
Both organizations will take some time to wrap up their affairs. It is expected the first board meeting of Travel Penticton will take place early in 2017, at which time half of the present working board will face election.
Working board member and soon to be former chair of the Penticton Hospitality Association Barb Haynes said the hospitality association is currently involved in two legal actions that need to be resolved prior to the society’s dissolution.
She said 52 applications have been received for the position of executive director for the new society.
Travel Penticton’s new branding will use the theme Undiscovered.
A number of images denoting tourism places of interest, known as “penticticons” were also unveiled. The icons are meant to be used as way finders, showcasing attention on the area’s attractions.
The new group is also in the early stages of developing an app to allow tourists to locate the icons in the city.
