PENTICTON – There’s a new wine event coming to Penticton later this month in a one of a kind festival celebrating small and emerging wineries.
Garagiste North: Artisan Wine Festival Penticton takes place in Canadian Tire’s outdoor garden centre on Sunday, Sept. 18 from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m., according to the Tourism Penticton website.
Garagiste North offers a sampling of some of the best of the regions small case lot wine producers, there will be live music and small bites provided by Gregor’s Gourmet, the website says.
The name Gargiste comes out of France, originally a derogatory phrase applied to maverick winemakers who made their product in their garage, outside of the system. The small winemakers eventually found acceptability in the winemaking world, and today’s Garagiste North event now brings small winemakers (under 2,000 cases in total annual production) and wine lovers together.
The event will take place rain or shine with partial proceeds going to a scholarship for a wine or viticulture student at Okanagan College.
Tickets are available at Canadian Tire in Penticton and on Eventbrite.
More information and tickets also available on the Garagiste North website.
