Rogers Hometown Hockey host Ron MacLean announced this morning on Breakfast Television from Toronto that Vernon, B.C., will be part of the Hometown Hockey tour for the 2016/17 season. Rogers Hometown Hockey, now in its third season, will bring MacLean and co-host Tara Slone to Vernon for a special live pre-game show to air on Sportsnet prior to the January 22, 2017, game between Vancouver Canucks and Chicago Blackhawks.
In preparation for the event, Vernon will host the free Rogers Hometown Hockey outdoor festival public on January 21 and 22, 2017. The all-ages celebration will be packed with activities including live entertainment, NHL alumni visits and a variety of free contests and giveaways.
“The City of Vernon is excited and proud of this opportunity to have Rogers Hometown Hockey broadcast live from Vernon, as well as offer a two-day celebration for our community.” said Vernon Mayor Akbal Mund. “As an avid fan of hockey, I look forward to the hometown stories that this broadcast will share.”
“Greater Vernon Minor Hockey is thrilled to be involved in Rogers Hometown Hockey,” said Kara Blazek, President of Greater Vernon Minor Hockey. “It will be an excellent opportunity for the kids to meet NHL Alumni and partake in all of the hockey related activities during the festival weekend.”
The estimated economic impact on Vernon for the event is $1 million.
There will be 24 communities featured as part of Season 3 of Rogers Hometown Hockey tour including Vancouver on January 15 and Edmonton on February 5.
More details on the location and event details will be announced as they become available.
