People are invited to experience the excitement of summer horse racing in Osoyoos this month.
The races are set to take place at Desert Park on Saturday, Aug. 20.
“Horse racing is fun for the whole family and a lot of people love watching the horses being led around and saddled up,” said Paddy Head, vice president of the Desert Park Exhibition Society. “And then of course a lot of people like to put just a $2 bet on their favourite horse and that makes it just so much more exciting.”
There is just one event this summer, as they get their funding from Hastings Park racetrack in Vancouver and the funding was delayed this year.
“We didn’t even know if we could have races this year,” said Head. “By the time we knew for certain everything was in place we could only have one race day.”
The day includes six races, with horses coming in from Washington and Alberta, as well as B.C.
There will also be a beer garden, a concession and betting.
The admission gates open at noon with post time for the first race at 1 p.m.
