TOTA and Tourism Kamloops host 20 Travel Agents for dinner at Terra Restaurant in Kamloops.
Rocky Mountaineer recently hosted 20 California based travel agents on a railtour through the Thompson Okanagan to the Rockies. On the return portion from Jasper to Vancouver, Tourism Kamloops and TOTA co-hosted them for dinner at Terra Restaurant on the overnight stop of their two day journey from Jasper. Howard Grieve, Travel Trade and Media Specialist, TOTA, Lisa Strachan, Manager -Trade, Meetings and Sport, Tourism Kamloops and Tara Look, Coordinator – Trade, Meetings and Sport, Tourism Kamloops joined the group on July 7 for a walkabout in the downtown and to Riverside Park before dinner.
These Travel Agents are selling British Columbia travel experiences and are very familiar with the Rocky Mountaineer tours and Vancouver Cruises to Alaska. This fam was an excellent opportunity to familiarize them with Kamloops’ product and Thompson Okanagan as a region. Ski was another area they were very interested in as well as the wine regions.
TOTA and Destination BC partner with City and Community DMOs to promote experiences to the travel trade including retail travel agencies, tour operators, receptive tour operators and tour wholesalers. Hosting these travel professionals in region is found to be one of the most successful tactics in raising awareness and increasing sales. Thompson Okanagan stakeholders are the key component of the fams as they provide the experience, contribute financially and through donating their staff time, make it all possible.
