Sun Peaks Welcomes Back Canadian DH Championships with New Course

This July 23-24, Sun Peaks Resort welcomes back the Canadian National Downhill Mountain Bike Championships for the third straight year with a new world-class course.

Building on the feedback of last year’s competitors, the Sun Peaks Bike Park Trail Crew completely redesigned this year’s course, incorporating 50% new trail woven into existing sections of ‘Insanity One’ and ‘Honey Drop’. The entirely hand built track promises to be more technically demanding and will feature a variety of spectator-friendly viewing areas. The top-to-bottom course will start at the Sunburst Patio and finish at the Okanagan Springs Beer Gardens located near Bento’s Day Lodge.

“The new race course is nothing like the track used in the past, it will test racers’ bike handling skills for the fastest times,” explains Sun Peaks Bike Park Coordinator, James Jeffries. “The new course is 100% singletrack, with a select few machine built features and segments to keep things interesting, starting from the top of the Sunburst chairlift on ‘Insanity One’ right to the base of the mountain.”

The race will also feature ‘citizen classes’, so anyone can enter and enjoy the same course as the pros. Competitors looking to sharpen their skills prior to race day are encouraged to check out the ‘Shred Hard Summer Bike Camps’ with pro rider Dylan Sherrard.

Sun Peaks Resort is providing discounted lift fees (40% off) to all registered racers for Friday, Saturday and Sunday for $24/day, plus GST.
