3rd Successful Year for the Giants Head Grind Race

Great Day for a Great Cause

The 3rd annual Giants Head Grind  was another successful event with racers walking/running or crawling their way from Peach Orchard Park on the the shores of Okanagan Lake  to the ‘peak’ finishing at the top of Giant’s Head Mountain on May 21. They covered 5.6 kilometers and gained 500 meters in elevation. The weather was perfect and there were   7 aid stations along the route that kept our “grinders” well-hydrated during the race topped off with a top of the mountain station sponsored by Nesters Market that offered up Ice Cream Sandwiches, Cookies, Chocolate Milk and Fresh Okanagan Fruit.

New for 2016, there was an optional bike race up Summerland’s volcanic landmark  that started at 9:00am, leaving lots of time for those that were willing to come to the the main even which started at  1:00pm… !

Thanks to tremendous support from our food and beverage partners including Brodo and Bad Tattoo both from Penticton and True Grains together with Okanagan Crush Pad our racers are well fed and watered (so to speak) at the end of the day BBQ at Peach Orchard Park.

With more than 450 racers registered this year it was another successful event welcoming participants from as far away as the UK, PEI, Ontario and Washington State and spanning ages from 5 years to 85 years of age…(plus some under 5’s carried up the mountain by parents.)

Funds raised each year go toward early diagnostics and testing for Colorectal Cancer as well as supporting the improvement of the Trails of Giants Head Mountain.
