TOTA attends Destination Canada Media Marketplace targeting key US Media.
Thompson Okanagan Tourism Association has just completed a three-day Destination Canada Media Marketplace in San Francisco, April 17 – 20. Glenn Mandziuk, CEO and Howard Grieve, Travel Trade and Media Specialist, completed a total of 40 appointments meeting with key USA-based journalists and editors. These appointments are an excellent way to create and strengthen relationships and educate journalists on the latest story ideas focusing on the region’s tourism-related experiences. 112 journalists were available for meetings and appointments were made based on target markets covered by each journalist and by their topics of interest for writing.
There is no shortage of interest in the Thompson Okanagan and key for journalists are story ideas featuring new product and unique experiences, the untold stories that feature characters and the story beneath the story. TOTA works with regional partners to research and prepare story ideas that are provided during appointments in a 4 page story tip sheet and provided electronically during post event follow up.
TOTA works in partnership with Destination Canada, Destination BC, regional DMOs and Stakeholders to attract journalists to visit the Thompson Okanagan to research and inspire their stories. On an almost daily basis, TOTA is responding to requests for destination information to build stories for those journalists unable to visit our region.
